Tasmania Starts National Broadband Rollout
Tasmania Starts National Broadband Rollout – Tasmanian customers of iiNet, Internode and Primus could soon be enjoying up to 100Mbps internet access speeds after the trio signed up as the first wholesale customers of the Tasmanian NBN Co.
The three national internet service providers were unveiled as the TNBN Co’s first wholesale customers at an event in Mornington, Tasmania today where Communications Minister Stephen Conroy opened a proof-of-concept test centre.
The test centre will provide retail service providers with a live environment to test their services as part of the roll out of the NBN in Tasmania.
“NBN Tasmania remains on track to deliver the first high speed broadband services from July and the new test centre will assist in those preparations,” Senator Conroy said.
“It will provide the platform and capability for the service providers to test and refine innovative new services that will be offered to customers as part of the NBN.”
TNBN Co chairman Doug Campbell said the three newly signed retail service providers have already used the new centre to test services on the Tasmanian network.
“As the NBN is an open-access wholesale network we will provide access to the network, and its connected customers, to any qualified retail service provider. We look forward to welcoming other retail service providers as agreements are put in place,” Mr Campbell said.
