Open Question: harassment by room-mates..I dont know how to approach, this. I don feel like returning back home?
I moved to a larger suburb in East Bay area, which was closer to my work place. Being single and switching from full time to contract work , I decided not to get stuck up behind a lease and do something temp. on a month to month basis. I saw this ad for a roomie and met the 22 yr fellow. He seemed to talk fine and trusting my instincts , I gave him advance money which was supposed to part of deposit . When I moved in things , the grapes became all too sour.He and his GF are staying togather in that place. He comes back within 15 days and tells me , the $250 I paid him is to ‘hold’ the room and not part of deposit ( his to keep ) , even through the understanding was different. Then I had to work from home for a month or so , because my office was being renovated. They suddenly claimed that the opwer bill jacked up and I had to pay a higher % of the bill. I am not sure what was the exact bill for the same month last year and whether they had the same # of people in that house…things like this pissed me off. His GF is the biggest b**ch . She makes slanting remarks about my cleanliness,but they do the same thing the VERY same or WORST things. When I pointed that out politely , a rude answer is being given to me. I kept my little noodle bowel in the faucet ( because the kitchen was being cleaned ) …and they threw it away…. and then tell lies dont know who did it. I talk to my parents abroad in the night , using internet and they would deliberately shut it off . I left them notes about that , they don’t seem to care.
If work from my room for sometime before going to work , they would jack up the stereo so loud that its an annoyance as if ‘pushing me to work’ while they stay at home. So their presence does not consume power , mine using just a PC jacks up the bill !!!.
All this reached climax , when her dog defecated in our (me and some other roomie’s ) bathroom.
I left a note for her …following evening I got a 30 day notice and a totally unpleasant response from his GF.
I dont trust this guy . He is so f**ked up. His credit history is screwed. If I confront him face to face with something, he’ll just give some stupid excuse and ignore it as if my concern means nothing.
Is there some sort of a body there where I can complain off. I made him sign the deposit receipt that says that he owes me back my money within 24 hrs of me leaving that place clean.
It does not look like he has the class and standard to honor it. Even if I leave my room spick and span he might make false accusations and tell lies .
HOW do I get my money back .WHAT can I do to discipline them ? WHAT are my rights as a tenant , that I can insist on ?
I am staying there only to cover my 30 day period. btw – ethnically I am Asian unlike the rest.
Its him and his gf that are doing this. Rest of them seem to be pretty congenial .
