Open Question: How do I change the default folder icon in Windows Vista?

I just downloaded an icon pack for Windows. I was wondering how to set certain icons so that they are the default instead of the fancy-type “Users” folders (Contacts, Documents, Pictures, etc,) and yellow sub-folders? I would like it to be permanent, i.e. create new folder and have the new custom icon instead of the yellow folder icon. I prefer to stay away from Stardock Software. Any help is greatly appreciated.
