Open Question: A Level English Language Pursuasive Speech. How is this looking?

Published on January 7, 2010 by Technology Slice

I study AS English Language, and for half of my coursework I have written a persuasive speech about Dogs Trust and the problems with Euthanasia. I would really, REALLY appreciate it if you had a read through and told me what you thought? Thank you.

Good afternoon to you all. I am here on behalf of Dogs Trust to talk with you about the troubles of shelter over-population and euthanasia.
There are two facts that you need to know before I begin: The first is that over-population is, in fact, a serious problem, and should not be taken lightly; and the second is that I won’t try to guilt trip you. I’m just giving you solid facts. You all own dogs. You know what trusting and devoted creatures they are. And you can’t deny that you already know what I am talking about, so I won’t lecture you.
I’m here to represent the voices of those who can’t speak for themselves. The creatures that we breed to live among us. But how many of them actually do? We, at Dogs Trust, have seen the neglect. We’ve seen the way dogs are treated in this throw-away society we live in. But you are the owners, the breeders, the carers. And it is our job, together, to make sure that I never have to make this speech again.
During my time with you, more dogs will be killed without reason throughout England, Europe, The Americas and many other countries. The politically correct term is ‘Euthanasia’. We call it ‘murder’. Over four million dogs are… ‘Euthanized’… every year. And if over-population continues unchecked then this number is certain to increase.
As I’ve said already, it is my job to beg you, on behalf of those who will die- and make no mistake; they will die – to take action. No, we can’t adopt every dog that needs a home. We can’t stop people from abandoning their pets. But what we can do is provide a place where they can wait for a home, and where they are not followed by the constant threat of Euthanasia. That place is called Dogs Trust.
We know what it is we must do, and right now we are doing all that we can. But we need help. We need your help. We alone do not have the supplies, the money or the help we need to ensure these dogs safety and, perhaps, a home.
If we don’t receive this support in time, then we will no longer need you. All we will need are pyres and shovels. Now this may sound unfair, it may also sound inhumane and heartless. But it’s true, nonetheless, and how you choose to deal with it will be your decision, your choice, your compassion. It will also be their salvation.
At Dogs Trust, we rely on you to help us save the lives of millions. We need you so badly. Our belief in you has not, and will not, be weakened. You are the Kennel club, brought together to govern the welfare of those that we create. Is that not your policy? We can end this. We can save them. We are so, so close.
If not us, then who else can Dogs Trust?

Thank you for your time.
Oh, and it would be so, so, soooo helpful if you could also put what grade you think this deserves, and how I can make it better? thank you.

PS. the absence of metaphors or similar rhetoric devices is deliberate because we’re trying to give the feel that we’re not glamorising anything, we’re just telling it how it is.
