Joe Stack – At first blush, it would seem that the man who flew his small airplane into an Internal Revenue Service building in Austin, Texas — fortunately killing no one, apparently, although one employee is still missing at the moment I write — was a right-wing government hater. last may, filed 4 year’s of back taxes. 05,06,07,08…got a refund check for 06, got letter’s for 07 and 08 approving a little over 10,000 dollars in refund. Then recieved aletter at the end of Oct. that our 05 claim had been denied and we owe about 12,000 dollar’s for 05(fines penalties and all that). My question is will the irs take the 07 and 08 refund of almost 10,000 and apply that to what we owe for 05? And when we file this year can they just take the remaining balance of almost 2,000 out of our 09 refund??

If someone has not filed taxes for several years, and in one of the years they were paid under the table and have no idea how much it was, how would one go about determining tax liability in a way that would satisfy the IRS? Also, would the IRS likely audit that person if they filed all of the years’ tax returns but simply left that year out? They are self employed. Thanks.
