My dog tends to bark mostly late at night at the stairs and growls a lot.. I don’t understand why he does it, sometimes he jumps back and runs up a little kinda like hes trying to intimidate something or scare it off.. We have had history of odd things happening in our house like noise in the basement, the feeling of being watched and stuff like that only during late hours like 12am+
Could my dog be seeing things that i don’t or maybe i’m just misinterpreting things

In the field where I walk my 3 dogs, a German Shepherd, Lurcher and Jack Russell Terrier (who I keep on an extendable lead), I rarely come across any other dog walkers.
When I do though, the Lurcher tends to go over to the other dog and start barking at them. He has a mussle on so can’t attack them and doesn’t try anyway but clearly a large barking dog can be intimidating to most people so I grab hold of his collar and put him on the lead too.
The strange thing is that when I do this the German Shepherd starts barking at him. He doesn’t bite him but it’s a pain when I’m trying to walk along and one of my dogs keeps running in front of me barking at the other.
Is there any way that I can discourage this? If I put him on the lead too then he stops but then I’m holding onto all 3 dogs which I find quite difficult.
