Open Question: Job Interview Advice – Role Plays?

Published on January 12, 2010 by Technology Slice

I was recently successful in getting a secondment for a role I’ve aimed to be in for quite a while. I must now apply for the permanent position and need some advice on role-plays. I had to do a role-play as part of the assement to get the secondment, and unfortunately scored quite low.

There were 2 scenario’s:

1. You have been given the job over a collegue who has applied for the job 4 times previously and always been unsuccesfull. You have noticed their performance has dropped dramatically and their attitude is generally quite bad. You have invited them into a meeting to discuss the situation.

2. You have noticed a member of your team been quite down, they are normaly a good worker and achieve good stats, however for the past week their stats have plunged. You are about to arrange a meeting with them, when they suddenly turn up at your desk asking to a ‘quiet word’. (It transpires your employee found her husband in bed with another woman a week before….)

In all honesty, I thought I handled the situation’s quite well. The interview feedback was given to me by someone who wasn’t present in the role-play so I didn’t fully understand where I faltered. I’m looking for some idea’s on how these situation’s should best be handled. I know these scenario’s wont come up again, but understanding where I have gone wrong will ultimately help me immensly in my self development and being better prepared for my next role-play assessment. One thing I do understand from my feedback is that I didn’t spend enough time talking with either employee.

I look forward to any responses.

Open Question: Why does my fighter fish keep getting mad?

Published on January 12, 2010 by Technology Slice

I have a male and a female fighter fish and they always start getting mad but not at each other. Because I have a double tank which is designed to divide the tank in half for two bettas (fighter fish) and the divider is dark blue solid and not transparent. So they can’t see each other. The tank is placed on top of my desk and I dont have a light over the tank. PLZ HELP and GIVE ME ANY ADVICE POSSIBLE! Thank You in advance. :D
