Open Question: ATI + nVidia… possible?

So I heard you can have your nVidia card running PhysX and your ATI card rendering the graphics.

Possible? I was under the impression that you needed two identical cards.

It would be nice to have an ATI card and still be able to take advantage of PhysX.
ATI: HD 5970
nVidia: GTX260
