My sister recently filed bankruptcy, due to high credit card debt. The credit card debt was due to a business that she started with her ex-boyfriend who defrauded her, so she was stuck with tremendous amount of credit card debt in her name. But now that bankruptcy proceeding is all over and she’s looking to raise her credit score, I am thinking of adding her to my credit card account as a joint account holder, which I hear will boost her credit quicker than other options. But I am worried, since I have a 700+ credit score, will adding her hurt my credit?
Also, what is the best way to ensure she can be a joint account holder? Do I have to apply for a new credit card or can I add her to an existing card? I believe adding her as an “authorized user” is different than a “joint account holder”? Am I correct?
