Another big winter storm was forecast on Monday for the U.S. mid-Atlantic still struggling to dig out from a blizzard that dumped two feet (half a meter) of snow and closed the federal government. On December 20th I adopted a puppy who I named Blitzen (we drove in a blizzard to pick him up). He came from a rescue in Missouri, we live in Mass. On the morning of Dec. 21st he pooped out a few roundworms, so I brought him to the vet for the earliest appointment they had open which was 2 1/2 hours later. They took a fecal, gave him a dose of Strongid-T, as well as a Lyme disease booster. The next day they called me to inform me that he had Giardia. He was put on a 9 day prescription of Flagyl (from 12/22 – 12/31), 1 1/2 pills per day at 250mg. 2 weeks later (this past Monday 1/4) he still was releasing roundworms in his stool. I went and got him a second dose of Strongid-T. The next morning he released what I think seems to be the last of the roundworms. However, yesterday morning he woke me at 2:30am to take him out and he had diarrhea, not watery, just pudding-like (sorry for TMI), then again at 4:30, same puddingish consistency. Between 5 and 6:30 he went out 3 times and the stool was much more watery. I called the vet at 8am and she said to just monitor him until Monday, which is when he had his next visit for his second Lyme disease vaccination. She said to feed him the bland diet and just keep him hydrated. So I did. Yesterday evening, around 4pm, he went out and had yellowish diarrhea with the most horrendous smell ever. I instantly knew the Giardia was back (although when first diagnosed with it, he showed no symptoms, it was just shown through a fecal exam) – or never left. By this time the vet was closed and I watched him closely. He started going more frequently. He came inside, fell asleep on his bed, so I let him rest. However when he went to get up, it was almost as if his behind was glued to the floor, he couldn’t get up easily. I immediately called the emergency vet and she told me to just watch how he behaves and if he got worse to bring him in. Well about an hour later I couldn’t stand to see him like this anymore. I was afraid he had been dehydrated, though he had drank a good amount of water, but I did check his gums which were normal color and wet, and the skin on his neck/back were still loose. So I brought him in, they ran some tests, he tested positive for both Giardia and Tapeworm. They also checked his back legs, just seems that he played a little too hard, no signs of hip displaysia or anything. It seems he was just exhausted and didn’t have the energy to move and the Giardia was hitting hard. He was given a 5 day prescription of Fenbendazole powder for the Giardia, as well as a 68mg dose of Praziquantel for the tapeworm. I gave him his first dose of the Fenbendazole mixed with some scrambled eggs (without milk) when we got home, as well as his 1 tablet of Praziquantel for the tapeworm. The diarrhea is still there, though the color is back to brown – no longer yellow, its less watery, the trips outside are far and few between (he has gone maybe 4 – 5 times since 10:30 last night), the amount is less and thankfully – that rancid smell is gone. He has been very moody and sleepy today (I wouldn’t say lethargic, just sleepier than normal). I cancelled his second Lyme vaccine for tomorrow and will reschedule next week, I think my poor boy has been through enough this weekend. They have to do the followup shot 3 – 4 weeks after the booster and next week will be 4 weeks so I’m going to bring him next week. My questions are – has anyone ever experienced Flagyl not working for their dog’s Giardia? and if so, did the Fenbendazole powder work if that is what was used? I know there is a lot going on in his poor little body and there is a lot of fighting against the parasites happening in there, but should I be worried that he is a bit sleepier than normal? He still hops up and plays here and there, and is continuing to be my shadow as always, he just seems a tad moody and sleepier, but I guess I would be too after everything he’s been through. His walk and his legs seem to not be bothering him very much today. Sorry if I am sounding over dramatic I’m just a worried mommy! Also I apologize for the length of this question, but I wanted to make sure everyone had the full background info before I asked my questions. Thank you!
Oh – and here are some pictures of my boy Blitzen (from a couple of weeks ago, he’s a lot fluffier and gained a few pounds since then) <3

I’ve created a new character in Diablo 2 and this time I’ve chosen to be an amazon cause no one in my family has ever been one before. Now I’m not sure if I should focus on javelin skills or bow and arrow skills (archery). Which would you recommend me to focus my amazon on and why? and also, what is the best skill out of each category? I used to always believe that the last skill is the best, but with an ice sorceress, Blizzard is far better than the last magic skill which you can learn.
Thank you all in advance.
