Open Question: What dog is good for my family?

My husband has made his mind that it’s time to get a family dog. We have been trying to push it back, but now our son (2 yrs) has been walking around w/ his scooby doo doll on a leash trying to get him to roll over. Our son will be 3 in March so we’re thinking about making it a birthday present.

Now what dog is good for us??
My husband and I are over 6feet tall so we don’t want a dog that might get stepped on.
As I said before we have a little boy who is 2
We also have a baby girl ,5 months, so we want a dog that is very good w/ children
And (if I’m not being to picky) a dog that doesn’t shed a lot

So what big, kid friendly, non shedding, easy to train dogs are out there??
