Students Burned In Science Experiment – TWO 15-year-old students are in a serious condition in hospital with third degree burns after a science experiment went wrong in western Sydney.

Emergency services were called to the science lab at Norwest Christian College in Riverstone at 9.35am (AEDT) today.

The students, a girl and a boy, suffered third degree burns to between 15 and 20 per cent of their upper bodies, a spokesman for Ambulance NSW said.

They were taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where their condition is described as serious.

A third student was assessed at the scene but he didn’t need to go to hospital.

The accident is believed to have been caused by methylated spirits and a bunsen burner, the spokesman said.

The Fire Brigade is investigating.
