Stem Cell Controversy

stem-cell-controversyStem cell research and different treatments have been controversial since day one. This comes as no surprise considering it involves the break-down of a human embryo as a part of the process. Embryos are potentially living human beings making their destruction an ethical dilemma. There is one simple question, if answered, that would end all debate. Do these embryos constitute a life or simply a mix of cells not yet developed?

Many people argue all humans start as an embryo, therefore, these embryos destroyed in the name of science is murder. I will have to agree with them. An embryo is a marvel of nature. It should not be toyed with in a laboratory. With the intent of helping people with the various ilnesses, they are destorying a life.

Then there’s the other side of the fence. Those that see embryos as a creation of science and not life, therefore having no guilt for pumping them out of a production line and destroying them at will. I’m sure there are many illnesses that can be cured with stem cell research. But at what cost are we doing it? If scientists could find the cure for AIDs by killing 100,000 people would they do it? Would they even consider it?

Stem cell research should be banned and pursued no more. The cost of losing our humanity is not worth the rewards.
