Solar Energy Rebate Ends
For a while now the Australian government has been offering up to $8000 in rebates when citizens install solar panels in their homes for electricity generation. It has been announced today the rebate scheme is being ended and no one will be entitled to rebates anymore. This is very dissapointing. The rebate was cancelled without warning, and without consultantion with industry leaders. Whats even more dissapointing is many people now will not install the solar panels and our environment will suffer for it.
Solar power initially is expensive to obtain in a home, but more than pays itself off in the long run. It is free to power your home and if you have excess power stored, you can feed it back into the electricity grid and get paid for it. A new scheme is being proposed but with substantially less rebates.

This is a step backward from Kevin Rudd’s environmentally friendly standpoint. Only a couple of months ago rebates were announced for insulation in housing to cut down electricity bills and usage. Now they even out their good deed with an evil one and reduce the solar rebates. The government should be encouraging people to do more in the way of cutting down costs and helping the environment instead of setting a bad example. Money will mean nothing if our earth is too polluted to inhabit.
The decision to scrap the solar energy rebate should be protested by everyone. Average Australians do not have the money to fork out for solar energy panels with this government rebate. Solar energy in Australia will die a slow and painful death unless something is done about it.
