Same Sex Marriage in Australia
Under Australian law, same sex marriage is not permitted in Australia. This is to the joy of some, and the despair of others. There are gay and straight people on both sides of the fence. De Facto relationships are allowed according to a bill passed in 2008, but marriage is not.
The two sides of the coin are morality/family values and individual rights. Gay couples argue they are entitled to be married just like everyone else. People who argue for family values argue same sex marriage will destroy the fabric of society in Australia.
When you throw religion in the mix we have one big mess. A mess the government is trying to avoid at all costs. There are many drawbacks to allowing same sex marriages. Firstly it will offend every religion possible and their followers making up 90 percent of the Australian population. Secondly it will open the door for same sex couples to adopt children. There are many, many things wrong with this.
Same sex couples raising children goes against the face of almost everything we know. Only man and woman can create life therefore same sex couples should not have children. The moral dilemma is not the only problem. Children of same sex couples will be confused about where they stand in life and will be constantly mocked. That’s no way for a child to live.
If same sex marriage is allowed in Australia, everything will become “ok”. Things people had a moral problem with and therefore did not participate in will suddenly seem to be not so bad. There are enough marriages ending up in divorce without adding gay marriage to the mix.
Gay couples try to argue their individual rights. How can they argue for rights when they are going against mother nature? Sex is the act of pro-creation. Man and man or woman and woman cannot pro-create therefore they are going against nature.
The problem lies mostly within sympathizers. People that are not gay themselves yet feel the urge to condone same sex marriage and sometimes even encourage it.
