Retirement Age for Australians

retirement-ageWith the handing down recently of the latest Australian budget comes the omission of the lifting of the retirement age in Australia from 65 to 67. There is a reason it was held back from the budget. The average Australian does not want to see the retirement age go up. Not only will it mean they will need to work another 2 years, but so will their kids and grand kids. I suspect some strong feelings will be expressed when it comes time to introduce it.

I, for one, am not happy about it. Many people work hard their whole lives and look forward to their retirement. What right has the government got to take two of their retirement years from them? None. According to me anyway. Retirement is one of the most rewarding times in a persons life. They have money to travel and do things they never could from trying to keep up with the kids. They can enjoy their grand kids without having to worry about working. No one would want to give that up only to work another 2, after 30+ years of hard work.

I don’t think the retirement age will ever gifted. It would take a lot to convince people to let it through.
