OPM Operating Status
Yes, It is official now that federal government is closed Tuesday Feb 9, 2010, according to OPM.gov. Obviously, the federal government is closed on Tuesday not because of its budget, but because of the big snow storm.
We were just barely able to get on the opm.gov website and saw the notice.
A notice on the page says ” due to a very high volume of traffic, the other OPM.gov pages are not available now. Please try back later.”
The main message is of course the federal government operating status in the washington DC area. It says “Closed. Federal agencies in the Washington DC area are closed.”
What the notice essentially says is that the non emergency government employees will be granted excused absence for the number of hours they are scheduled to work. But this rule does not apply to employees on leave without pay of any type. Nevertheless, telework employees may be expected to work on their telework sites. Emergency employees should report for work on time. Employees on alternative work schedules will not get compensated for the closed workday.
The noticed was posted on Feb 8, 2010 at 6:00 pM.
Next time you need to know federal government operating status, check out foodconsumer.org rather than opm.gov which is likely inaccessible due to heavy traffic.
