Obama Successfully Pushes Through Health Reform – America’s healthcare system will get a $US940 billion makeover after the House of Representatives voted today for historic reform, cementing President Barack Obama’s place in history.

A delighted Mr Obama said the US Congress proved the country was still capable of “big things” by voting for a health care reform he styled as a victory for the American people.

Using epic language, Mr Obama said that Americans had answered the call of history, after Congress sent him a health reform bill he said answered the prayers of the uninsured.

“This is what change looks like,” Mr Obama said, in late-night remarks in the East Room of the White House, soon after the House of Representatives voted to pass his health care plan after months of cliffhanger politics.

Mr Obama said that despite the predictions of pundits that it was not possible to pass the mammoth bill, Americans had risen above their differences, though the measure passed without a single Republican vote.
