Nascar

“We weren’t real good on that first run but we knew the cautions were going fly eventually and we were going to have to make a pit stop and we did. The crew chief [Buddy Sisco] made some great calls. All of a sudden the car went from a not-so-good car to a really good car and drafted our way back up into a transfer spot. I don’t exactly what happened. I got tagged really hard from behind and spun off Turn 4 here. It’s a shame. Looking at who finished where at the end of that race I thought we had a shot at it and unfortunately got run into and got ran over and dumped and we don’t make the Daytona 500.”

IT WASN’T THAT MUCH DAMAGE BUT IT WAS ENOUGH TO KEEP YOU FROM RUNNING WELL. “It was. Something happened to the motor at the end of the race, too. I’m not sure exactly what. It really wasn’t down a cylinder but it wasn’t running right at the end of the race and of course had a little aero damage to the car so that didn’t help matters. But I think had we been able to stay out of trouble and not gotten wrecked by another car out there we would have been fine and been in the Daytona 500.”

THE WAY THE RACE PL AYED OUT YOU HAD ONE LAST SHOT ON THE FINAL RESTART. “We did. The right place the right time and unfortunately the time was there the car just wasn’t right because of the damage earlier from the wreck. It’s unfortunate.”

IS THE PLAN TO STILL GO TO AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY NEXT WEEK AND LAS VEGAS? “Absolutely.”
