Matthew Stokes Drug Dealing
Geelong star Mathew Stokes is staring at a life ban from football over drug-dealing charges that have rocked the AFL.
Geelong immediately stood down Stokes.
Stokes is believed to be the first serving AFL or VFL player
Police allege Stokes ordered a gram of high-quality cocaine from Geelong nightclub assistant manager Matthew Randall, who has also been charged, on January 19.
Mr Randall, who ran security at the Blue Martini club until a week ago, sent Stokes a text message the following day asking if the Geelong forward pocket “had had a go”.
Two days later Stokes replied a friend had tried the drugs and said “it was very good s—”.
Sen-Constable Matthew Plunkett told the court Mr Randall made 2820 phone calls or text messages between January 6 and January 29. Seventy per cent were related to drugs.
Police said Stokes contacted Mr Randall on January 19 and initially ordered one $500 gram of high quality cocaine, and another less pure $350 gram of cocaine.
In a taped conversation between Stokes and Mr Randall, the player says he wants “one of each”, police allege.
“Sweet,” was Randall’s alleged reply.
Stokes denies using cocaine and says he bought the drug for friends.
“I put all the conversations to Stokes,” Sen-Constable Plunkett said.
