Jessica Watson Almost Home – Queensland teenage sailor Jessica Watson is on the home stretch to Australia, passing by South Africa’s Cape of Good Hope and into the Indian Ocean.
The 16-year-old from the Sunshine Coast is attempting to be the youngest person to sail solo around the world.
Julie Watson says her daughter has more than 4,000 nautical miles to go before she reaches Western Australia.
“The Indian Ocean is a very big southern ocean, so we’ve still got May as our expected date home,” she said.
“The Indian Ocean is probably the more notorious of all of them.
“There’s some fairly ferocious lows that march around the bottom there.”
