God Of War Increases Sales
God Of War Increases Sales – Sony Corp.’s “God of War III” and new “Pokemon” titles for Nintendo Co.’s DS handheld device drove U.S. video-game sales higher by 6 percent in March.
Sales of consoles, software and accessories in the largest game market rose to $1.52 billion, NPD Group Inc. said today in a statement.
Along with the new titles, the companies are benefiting from easy comparisons with a year earlier, when business began to slump and annual revenue tumbled 8 percent. March 2010 was third best non-holiday month on record, NPD said.
“These positive results certainly reflect an inflection point for the industry, and we’re likely to see positive comparisons for the next two months,” Jesse Divnich, a game industry analyst with Electronic Entertainment Design & Research, said in an e-mailed report.
Nintendo’s Wii, the top-selling console, continued to lead the market with sales of 557,500 units, a drop of 7.2 percent from a year ago. Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 sales rose 2.5 percent to 338,400, and Sony’s PlayStation 3 gained 44 percent to 313,900, the Port Washington, New York-based researcher said.
