Elderly Victims on the Rise
A society can often be judged by how they treat their elderly. Elderly people have spent years upon years raising their children, giving to charity and paying taxes. As such they deserve to live their final years in comfort and dignity. Sadly, more often than not, they do not live dignified lives and are forced to live in squalor. Not only this but they are preyed on by the young as easy targets.
A good example of this is the 81 year old lady found near train tracks in Cairns. She suffered severe head injuries and died after being rushed off to hospital. She was most likely beaten and robbed for the small amount of money she gets from her pension. Incidents like this are very sad. It takes a sick person to rob and assault someone that has no chance of fighting back. Especially for such a small amount of money.
More needs to be done to help our elderly. A lot more than a $30 increase in the pension. Not only are the elderly being preyed on by other citizens, but also by the government. With the cost of living sky rocketing, the elderly are being forced to either stop eating or eat dog food. They cannot afford anything else. That is no way to live for any human being let alone someone at that stage in their life.
