Crown Casino Tempting Gamblers
Over the years since crown casino has opened in melbourne, there have been many court cases regarding the unethical behaviour of crown casino staff in feeding the gambling addictions of its patrons. The latest to file a law suit is Harry Kakavas.
Mr Kakavas claims crown casino used ploys such as trips in the private jet and gift boxes of up to $50,000 to lure him to the casino. His total losses ending up around $30 million. But who’s responsibility is it to stop gamblers like these? Is it the responsibility of the crown casino staff or the gamblers themselves?
There are two sides of the coin here. Firstly, gamblers must take responsibility for their own actions. Just because they gamble at crown casino doesn’t mean they will have their own personal babysitter telling them when to stop. After all crown is a business and must make money. These gamblers could stop at any time. There is no gun to their head.
The other side of the coin is an argument for entrapment. The way crown casino operates, offering free gifts and gambling money, very much encourages these chronic gamblers to come and blow millions at their establishment. They offer these gifts knowing full well that more than 10 times the amount they spent will be blown on the tables.
So who will win? Most likely crown casino. They’ve been through this a million times before and I’m sure they have plenty of lawyers that are experts in these matters. In the end, if a person really doesn’t want to gamble, no amount of encouragement will make them go to the casino.
