Christine Nixon Has Been Hospitalised – The departing head of Victoria’s bushfire reconstruction authority was taken to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning with a non-life threatening illness.

She is expected to undergo surgery on Monday.

It’s believed Ms Nixon’s concerned husband called an ambulance when she fell ill during the night.

“She has been admitted and will have surgery early tomorrow,” a spokeswoman for the reconstruction authority said.

“The illness is not life threatening.”

The hospital admission caps off a dramatic two days for Ms Nixon, who announced on Saturday she would step down as chair of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority.

Ms Nixon will quit her $345,000 a year job on August 16 after a contentious 18-month tenure.

The announcement came on the same day the federal election was called and two weeks before the bushfires royal commission is due to hand down its final report, which is expected to be critical of Ms Nixon’s actions on Black Saturday.

The former Victoria Police chief commissioner was lambasted for having a haircut and working on her memoirs on Black Saturday, then leaving to have dinner at a pub with friends at the height of the disaster in which 173 people were killed.
