Body In Barrel Identified
Body In Barrel Identified – Police have confirmed that the remains found in a barrel in Melbourne’s north on Tuesday belong to missing Fawkner woman Lucia Amenta.
Ms Amenta, 71, disappeared from her home on Sydney Road in January last year.
Police from the Homicide Squad have not been able to establish how long she had been dead but have been able to identify her through dental records.
On Tuesday detectives were called to a chemical company in Broadmeadows where workers had found a woman’s body in a barrel.
The barrel had been retrieved from a creek being cleaned by council contractors in the Jack Roper Reserve last week, but was not opened until Tuesday.
Last night police raided her family home where her husband Paolo and son John currently live.
They seized a number of items from the house, including a barrel.
Detective Inspector Steve Clark from the Victorian Homicide Squad says there are some similarities between the barrel taken yesterday and the barrel Ms Amenta’s body was found in.
Detective Inspector Clark says her body was not in the creek before July 31.
He is appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious at the creek site since that date to contact police.
He also says police are keen to identify where the barrel had come from.
“The barrel has a manufacturer’s stamp on it that reads ‘Hi Tech; Bangalore’. We’re appealing to anyone who might know if these barrels can be purchased in Melbourne, and if so, where,” he said.
