Australians Love Gaming
Gaming has become a normal part of life for many. PS3s, XBOX 360′s, laptops, desktops, the list goes on. With the expansion of high speed internet gaming has taken off even further. How many of us are gamers?
A recent poll conducted indicates 2 out of 3 Australians are gamers. No longer is gaming for the little children or the geek. Average people with average lives are playing all sorts of games whether they be online role playing, or action games like Doom 3. The gaming industry has been reaping great profits from this boom and it is likely to continue.
This is a little disturbing if you ask me. Online interaction like social networking and gaming are causing us to no longer interact in the real world. In fact to some people the real world is online. Then of course there is the story of the gamer that played World of Warcraft for days on end without eating and eventually ended up dying in front of his computer. This is a very extreme example but it is an indication of the way it is headed. Soon people will be so consumed with games they will lose touch with reality.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. Gaming is not all bad. It helps children learn and develops reflexes and mechanical skills. It also is rather entertaining depending on what you like. Like all things it just needs to be done in moderation.
Parents need to keep track of how much kids are playing games and what sorts of games they are playing. With games depicting graphic violence and sexual acts, parents need to be vigilant in monitoring the kinds of games kids are playing. Some of these scenes of violence and blood can be quite traumatizing for children.
